If you love family saga stories , then Megan's Way is the read for you. It starts with two girls back in 1988 visiting a psychic in a tent at the local fair and revealing a fortune that could be seen as an omen. The book then fast forwards to present time and we meet those two girls now as women and they are still the best of friends - Megan and Holly. We learn that Megan has been in remission from her Cancer for a few years now, but the Cancer has come back and this time she has decided that she isn't going to fight it but let life take it's course but she doesn't want anyone to know just how sick she is at the moment. Megan is a single mother to a daughter Olivia who is about fourteen/fifteen years old. These two have a psychic connection where Megan can feel Olivia's pain and recieve visions when she is in trouble and vice versa. Later in the book we discover that her friend Holly has married their college friend Jack and they are childless and that Holly had a child who passed away from SIDS. As the book goes along , we learn more about Megan and Holly's past and that the secrets they have kept hidden over the years have been pretty big and they are both sort of living double-lives. All will be revealed in the last few chapters of the book. I shall finish with this though that Megan's way is an emotional rollercoaster ride book filled with lots of twists and turns and covers alot of ground /storylines within the pages. This is a book definitely worth reading and is Angst for the Contemporary Woman.Tags : Megan's Way [Melissa Foster] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers.
.

"[Foster] drew me into this amazing tale easily,Melissa Foster,Megan's Way,Outskirts Press,1432744429,General,Fiction,Fiction - General,Fiction General

Megan's Way by Melissa Foster is an emotional story - a rendering of a family drama. It's also the story of our friends and the often very complicated relationships we have with them. Tangled in and among all of this is a multitude of long buried secrets - secrets that, if revealed, can destroy these friendships.
Megan is a single mother to Olivia and perfectly happy with her life except for the fact that her cancer has returned and the outlook isn't good this time. Megan and her daughter have always been extremely close. Really Megan has devoted her life to Olivia and vice versa. Since her mother had cancer the first time Olivia would much rather spend time with her mother than anywhere else. More than anything Megan does not want her daughter to have to watch her deteriorate to nothing so she makes the decision to do nothing and leave the world `her way'.
This novel also has some elements of the paranormal in that Megan and Olivia share a very deep connection in that Megan can feel emotions or pain that Olivia is in. I quite enjoyed that part of the story as I do believe that there are people in the world that share such connections. Megan's main goal was to cause the least amount of pain and suffering to her daughter and her friends Holly, Jack, and Peter. This is really a story of one woman's courage to leave life on her own terms and I respect that.
I liked the characters in this novel although I can't say I really felt any strong connection with them and even though in some ways this was a sad story, it really seemed to be hopeful as well in a strange kind of way. I guess it shows us that life goes on even when in our darkest moments we believe it can't. As Olivia says at one point in the story that the sun still comes up and the day still goes on even though her mother is gone. Even though I didn't form any connection to the characters it absolutely didn't take away from me liking this story which sounds odd I know, but still true. I guess in some ways I would have to say I liked Megan the most because, like her, I wouldn't want to put my loved ones through any more suffering than I had to.
That being said I think this book would make a great book club selection. What would you do for those you love? What decisions would you make? I constantly questioned myself throughout this book - what would I do? Ultimately I feel I would follow Megan's path. Then there is the other side of the story that involves all the secrets that have gone on between the friends. They have all kept their secrets buried but with the death of Megan they begin to question themselves and their decisions.
I really enjoyed Megan's Way by Melissa Foster. I finished it quite quickly as once I got started I needed to get to the end to learn just what everyone's secrets were. I have to say I was actually surprised by at least one of the secrets harbored by one of the friends. I just didn't see it coming. All in all this was a good read for me.
There is nothing like having a book grab you from the first page and not let you go. Megan's Way does that. Although it cannot be read without tissues on hand. It also reminded me of a Jodi Piccoult novel.
Melissa's writing flows effortlessly and she made me fall in love with her characters who were very much alive on the pages. The pages turned quickly wanting to find out the secrets they each held.
I lost my mom to cancer almost 20 years ago and there isn't a day that goes by that I don't ache to talk to her. There was so much in this book that was actually healing for me after all these years.
I am so glad that I found a new author to add to my short list of favorites.
Secrets, everyone has a secret. And as each secret is revealed to the reader, they become more implausible. And then in the end everyone decides to keep their secrets to spare themselves and others more pain.
Megan has cancer that has returned with metastasis throughout her body.Continuing aggressive treatment is futile. She is torn because she has a fourteen year old daughter to stick around for. But she believes the kinder thing would be to spare her and her close friends the agony of watching her decline. But she has trouble telling them the truth of the matter.
Holly,Jack and Peter, Megan's close friends are loathe to let her go. And they each carry a secret. After Megan passes they each experience an emotional quandary in regard to their secret.
Megan's daughter, Olivia. She and her Mom have been so close. And now there seem to be things that Megan kept from her. As a young teenager she reacts with anger alternating with despair.I feel that Olivia"s character was the most well written and best developed.
Megan sticks around after her death to help Olivia come to terms with her death. She manifests herself in clouds and by her signature scent. This is comforting and confusing to Olivia.
Overall, this was an ok read. And I kept reminding myself that this was a debut work. It probably would have been better marketed as a teen read. Adults have trouble suspending belief with glaring implausibilities in regard to cancer and baby switching.
