Be warned, this book is full of graphic violence and several twisted relationships. A truly twisted love develops between two of the characters, but you just can't help but root for them.

I wasn't a fan of the original cover and thought that Running Jaguar would feature more heavily than he does; I'm happy to see the author changed it. I'm interested to see if Rocky returns in another book or if he's walked off into the sunset. If so, I'll miss you, Rocky.

A no holes barred, gritty crime drama set against in Mexicali, Mexico. Rocky, a one-armed assassin and ex-marine works for anyone if the price is right. But he's also a man with a conscience. Faced paced, this novel has plenty of twists and turns to satisfy the most ardent crime novel reader.
From word one, this novel grips and shakes you with its unique descriptions and its velvet use of terror. Sample the opening "The pervasive wood smoke of Mexico City created an orange midday glow. Death. Its challenging presence rode hot thermal wavelets, making the ground quiver." The hero is ruthless and passionate, the heroine driven, ambitious, and loyal, even to those who corrupted and used her. Everyone holds secrets, even the dead, and it's a race to see who will survive the revelations of those dark, devastating truths.
Runnels is one of the first authors I’ve read in a while to make me really sit back and admire what I read. Cross-gene books are something we hear of a lot, or the claim at least, but seldom does an author really manage to pull it off in a way that you feel satisfied by what you’ve read for each of the genres mentioned.

There’s so much going on in Twisted Love. I’m a big fan of the 50’s era Hardboiled Pulp referenced in the book blurb, and I’m happy to say this lived up to the billing. Add in the Love / Romance factor and this, for me, turned out to be a real winner.
What struck me most about this cracking action novel, was the compelling and well developed characters. Rocky may be a contract killer, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have a heart or empathy. And Julietta may be an academic, but that doesn't mean she isn't strong and adventurous. These two protagonists drive the story, united in their desire to solve a mystery that throws them into a world of danger, violence, corruption and even supernatural forces. After all, what are a few malevolent spirits, when you have a Mexican cartel and crooked cops, out for your blood too.

This may not be a novel for the faint hearted – it is a little grizzly at times - but, it is definitely a wild ride, with plenty of twists and turns. Give it a try, it would make a great gift for any lover of crime novels.

It is a touch and edgy story set in the gritty streets of Mexico in a city steeped in corruption, under the influence of dirty cops and drug cartels. Assassin Rocky is contracted to kill a newspaper editor who is on the verge of unveiling the corruption that would take down a number of high ranking officials. Meanwhile, in the same city archaeologist Julietta Aguilar discovers a secret underground chamber, unleashing something unimaginable and unspeakable. As these two storylines come together, you will be wondering if anyone is going to get out alive, or if love will be the salvation to both Rocky and Julietta. A great read, that was more than worth the ebook price, so give it a try I you are looking for something new.

Rocky is a force to be reckoned with and as a creepy one armed assassin and a ex- marine, he is a gifted killer. Now he is on a mission to eliminate a newspaper editor who is getting a little too close to revealing some corruption and shady deals in the state police department. For a crime novel, this story is riveting, for action and suspense, this will keep you glued to your seat. There is plenty of action and a lot of twists and interesting turns to keep the pace hopping. Julietta Aguilar is the love interest in the story, and when she discovers something amazing during an archeological dig, strange things begin to transpire. A great mix of tension, a little romance and cold blooded killers, makes this story solid from beginning to the end. Highly recommend.
